About Visionary

Visionary tells the stories behind the African founders and innovators building companies that matter, with research you can check.

Our mission is to build, inspire and tell our stories to the world, the best way possible. We tell the stories of African and Black founders and innovators: the ones just starting, and the ones who began years ago and are now giants.

Visionary is an independent magazine about the people building African companies: the founders, inventors and investors whose work rarely gets the coverage it deserves. We focus on what they built, how they built it, and what other founders can learn.

Editorial policy

Original reporting from public facts. Our stories are written from research across many sources, such as company websites, public records, interviews and other coverage. We use other publications for ideas and for facts we can verify, and we do not copy or closely paraphrase their articles.

AI-assisted research, human responsibility. We use AI tools to help research and draft. Every story carries a disclosure saying so, and a linked list of the sources behind it. People review stories before they are published.

Real names, real bylines. Stories are published under the name of the person responsible, or as Visionary Staff. We do not invent author identities.

Founder-submitted stories. Founders can pay to submit a story for consideration. Paid features are researched and written by us, clearly labelled, and the subject has no editorial control over what we conclude.

Corrections. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change. Report an error on our corrections page.
