Rapelang Rabana now co-leads a charity that teaches children with tablets. It reported serving 700,000 by early 2025.
Imagine Worldwide delivers literacy and numeracy through tablet-based learning in Sub-Saharan Africa, and won the 2024 Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prize.
In 2023 Rapelang Rabana became co-chief executive of Imagine Worldwide, an education technology non-profit that provides literacy and numeracy to children across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Tablets in classrooms
The programme uses tablet-based learning. Under her leadership, Imagine reported serving about 700,000 children by early 2025, with plans to expand the programme nationally in Malawi and to replicate the model in countries such as Sierra Leone and Tanzania.
The organisation received the 2024 Klaus J. Jacobs Best Practice Prize, which recognises institutions and individuals implementing evidence-based solutions that promote child development and learning.
From startups to learning
Rabana studied at the University of Cape Town, co-founded the mobile calling company Yeigo, and later founded Rekindle Learning. Imagine Worldwide brings together what she learned across those ventures: how mobile technology reaches people, and how learning can be delivered at scale.
